Zack Shriver of Marysville, who plays on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, shot a second-round 4-under-par 67, but still came up three strokes shy of a possible place in the upcoming U.S. Open golf tournament during sectional qualifying Monday on the Tumble Creek course at Suncadia Resort in Roslyn.
Shriver, who opened the 36-hole event with a 3-over 74, finished at 1-under 141. He tied for sixth.
The top two places earned spots in the U.S. Open, June 18-21, at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y. Those places went to University of Washington golfer Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., and Andrew Parr of Reston, Va., a current pro and former member of the Texas A&M golf team.
Amateur Jake Koppenberg of Everett, who recently finished his senior season at Western Washington University, had rounds of 73 and 73 on Monday to finish 15th.
