Local in contention at PGA Professional National Championship

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Mill Creek Country Club head pro Ryan Benzel shot a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday for a three-day total of 2-under 214 at the 41st-annual PGA Professional National Championship at Reynolds Plantation.

Benzel is in a six-way tie for 16th place heading into today’s final round, with the top 20 finishers qualifying for the 90th-annual PGA Championship, Aug. 7-10, at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Mich.

Benzel trails co-leaders Kyle Flinton, Sonny Skinner and Scott Hebert by six strokes.
