A trio of locals delivered in a big way Sunday during the Washington State High School Hammer Championships at The Evergreen State College in Olympia.
Edmonds’ Adrianna Coleman, a senior at King’s High School, and Mukilteo’s Kimberly Beard, a freshman at King’s, notched personal-best throws while providing a one-two finish in the women’s championship. Coleman hit 172 feet, 4 inches and Beard 168-0. Both finished over 40 feet in front of third place.
Mariner junior Calvin Gutierrez notched a personal-best 165-03 in the men’s championship and placed second. Aberdeen junior Tyler Bates posted the winning mark of 166-04.
Coleman also won the Class 1A discus title (145-07) and placed second in the shot put (40-11) at the state track and field championships last week in Yakima. Beard finished second in the discus (129-10).
