Locals lead Team USA men’s curling squad

VICTORIA, B.C. — After winning its first match on Saturday’s opening day, Team USA lost three straight contests at the 2013 World Men’s Curling Championships.

The Americans, led by skip Brady Clark of Lynnwood, dropped a disappointing 7-6 decision to Japan on Sunday, and later in the day fell to a strong Switzerland team, 8-4. The Americans returned to the ice Monday morning, losing to Sweden 7-6.

The U.S. was scheduled to face tournament favorite Canada on Monday night.

After two-plus days of competition, Team USA was tied for 10th among the tournament’s 12 teams with a 1-3 record.

The American team includes Sean Beighton, Philip Tilker and Darren Lehto, all of Seattle, and alternate Greg Persinger of Anchorage. Beighton grew up in Edmonds and graduated from Kamiak High School in 2007.
