PULLMAN, Wash. – Marcus Moore had 28 points and Jerry McNair added 20 points to lead Washington State to an 81-79 victory over Washington Thursday night.
The victory snapped a 12-game WSU overall losing streak and a 12-game Pac-10 Conference losing streak as well.
The Cougars shot just 39 percent in the first half, but made 50 percent of their shots in the second half and were 14 of 19 from the free throw line. Washington State also outrebounded Washington 40-35.
Doug Wrenn led Washington with a career-high 34 points. David Dixon tied a school record with seven blocked shots.
The Cougars trailed for much of the game and for the entire second half until Moore’s runner in the lane with 5:44 remaining put the Cougars up 68-66.
The two teams traded baskets the rest of the game.
Washington had a final chance to send the game into overtime, when Moore fouled Will Conroy behind the 3-point line with .3 seconds remaining.
Conroy made his first then missed his final two free throws and the Huskies were unable to get a put-back basket as time expired.
