Lynnwood boys feel fine in KeyArena

Herald staff

SEATTLE – Bobby Hinnenkamp and Drew Matzen felt right at home on the KeyArena hardwood Saturday while leading the Lynnwood boys basketball team past Lake Stevens 56-48 in a Western Conference non-divisional match-up.

The two Wesco teams, which squared off on the Seattle SuperSonics’ home court, were on hand for Seattle’s game against the Toronto Raptors.

“It was a great experience for the kids,” Lake Stevens coach Norm Lowery said. “The Sonics treated us great. The ticket to our game also allowed the fans to stay for the Sonics game.”

Hinnenkamp and Matzen, who both scored 14 points apiece, combined for 10 of Lynnwood’s 16 points in the crucial fourth quarter.

Lynnwood, after finishing the third quarter tied at 40, held Lake Stevens to just six points in the final eight minutes of the game en route to its third non-conference victory.

Lynnwood jumped out to its biggest lead of the game midway through the fourth when Anthony Porter drove in for a layup to give Lynnwood a six-point lead.

“They pressed us the whole way,” Lowery said. “But it really hurt us in the fourth quarter. It was just more effective then.”

Matthew Stevens scored 12 points to lead Lake Stevens.
