WENATCHEE — The Lynnwood Tigers earned a spot in the title game of the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association Division II playoffs with a dramatic 14-13 victory over Wenatchee on Wednesday.
Lynnwood’s Cameron Girgus took advantage of a Wenatchee penalty to score the game-winning goal 53 seconds into overtime.
The Tigers (15-3-0) face San Juan (14-2-0) in the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Seattle. In their only meeting this season, Lynnwood beat San Juan 12-6 on March 19 at Meadowdale High School.
In Wednesday’s semifinal, Lynnwood trailed in the final minute, but a goal by Sam Girgus with 9 seconds remaining sent the game into overtime.
In the first minute of the extra period, Wenatchee was whistled for an illegal body check, setting up a man-advantage situation for Lynnwood. When play resumed, Cameron Girgus scored the game-winner. It was his only goal of the game.
Alex Tindall (four goals, two assists) and Trey Knowles (four goals) led Lynnwood’s offense. Tigers goaltender David Dekoekkoek made nine saves.
