MARYSVILLE — The Lynnwood girls basketball team fell just short in its comeback bid, ending its season and a shot at a second-straight trip to Tacoma. In a loser-out game state regional game against Auburn Mountainview, the Royals lost their lead in the third quarter thanks to an 8-0 Lions run, but
kept the game close to the end. Sisters Aly and Caitlin Carr made all six of their free-throw attempts in the final 36 seconds to help Auburn Mountainview (21-7) advance to Saturday’s winner-to-state game.
Lynnwood (20-5) trailed for most of a close fourth quarter, but took the lead with 40 seconds remaining on an Arsenia Ivanov 3-pointer. Ivanov added a jumper with 7.3 seconds remaining to make it a one-point game, but after Caitlin Carr made her final two free throws to give AM a three-point lead, Lynnwood could only get off a desperation heave from 40 feet at the buzzer.
Junior wing Mokun Fajemisin led Lynnwood with a game-high 19 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Fajemisin had 13 points in the first quarter before the Lions spent the second half double and triple-teaming her. Caitlin Carr had 18 points to lead Auburn Mountainview.
