Lynnwood earns first district berth since ‘68

Herald staff

LYNNWOOD – The last time the Lynnwood softball team qualified for a district tournament, man had yet to set foot on the moon.

But that all changed Friday when Lynnwood beat Meadowdale 10-3 at Meadowdale High School to qualify for the Class 3A district tournament for the first time since 1968.

“The girls are just elated, they’re totally excited,” said Lynnwood coach Jamie Horn. “They’re happy to be representing the school.”

To win Friday, the Royals had to overcome the pain of defeat. Lynnwood lost to the same Meadowdale team 6-1 Thursday to force Friday’s tiebreaker.

A four-run third inning and a five-run fourth helped ease the Royals’ pain.

“The team got down a little bit after the loss yesterday, but they really turned it around and turned it into something positive,” Horn said.

Starting pitcher Brittany Roden scattered seven hits and allowed only one walk the entire game to pick up the victory.

Offensively Lynnwood was paced by the two doubles of Ali Masterson.

Lynnwood will play its next game Wednesday May 15 in the first round of the district tournament.
