More than 30 students turned out for the Lynnwood girls swim team this fall, a number that Royals coach Tracy Dostert calls “maybe the biggest in school history.”
“This is my fourth year as coach, and every year I’ve recruited more girls to build our depth,” she said. “We’re just trying to get the word around school that we do have a swim team.”
With its numbers up, the next step for Lynnwood is increasing its presence at postseason meets. Madison Tang (500-yard freestyle) and Rebecca Murphy (breaststroke) are close to posting qualifying times for this month’s 3A District 1 meet.
“We’ve talked a lot about hitting district-qualifying times,” Dostert said. “They’re willing to learn, and they’re hard workers. None of them swims with a club year-round, so it’s been hard to compete. They’re young in terms of experience, but they’re working hard, and doing pretty well.”
