M-P beats Stanwood in slugfest

MARYSVILLE – The Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks took advantage of four Stanwood errors and exploded for 16 runs in the bottom of the third inning to win a key Western Conference North Division baseball game 21-15 Wednesday, in a battle for first place.

With the victory, Marysville-Pilchuck (8-1 in league and 11-2 overall) takes sole possession of first place in the North.

James Day went 3-for-3, with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored to lead the Tomahawks.

Down 10-3 after Stanwood put eight runs across in the third inning, M-P scored 16 runs, including 10 runs with two outs, to give the Tomahawks a commanding 19-10 lead after.

“I told the team being down 10-3 didn’t matter, there was a lot of game left to be played,” Marysville-Pilchuck coach Josh Rosenbach said.

Blake Wickstrom had a double for Stanwood (6-1, 10-1).
