M-P wins Lake Washington volleyball tournament

KIRKLAND – The Marysville-Pilchuck volleyball team took first place in the inaugural Lake Washington Invitational Saturday.

The Tommies defeated Bellevue 15-7, 16-14, 15-8 in the final.

Stephanie Parker led the Tomahawks with 18 assists in the championship match. Ashley Isaksen had six blocks and six kills, and teammate Serita Barnhart had five kills.

The Tomahawks were perfect in seven matches and lost just two out of 16 games.

“The competition was good,” M-P coach Shelly Johnson said. “We had a little easier time in pool play than we did in the playoffs.”

  • Lopez 3, Skykomish 0: At Lopez H.S., Natasha Chicovsky was 13-for-13 serving with three aces for Lopez (4-2 in league, 9-7 overall) in the 15-13, 15-2, 15-7 Northwest B League victory. Teammate Megan McCoy was 21-for-21 with nine aces. Lopez coach Dave “Chico” Chicovsky earned his 300 career victory.

  • South Whidbey 2, Nooksack Valley 1: South Whidbey’s Claudia Gil-Osorio scored in the first half in the Falcons’ North Cascades Conference victory.

  • Class 4A state diving qualification meet: Snohomish’s Emily Enders and Mariah Berry qualified for state in the zone diving II meet.
