M-P wins Wesco North meet

OAK HARBOR – The Marysville-Pilchuck girls golf team led wire-to-wire in claiming the two-round Western Conference North Divisional Championship Monday with 253 modified Stableford points at Whidbey Golf and Country Club.

Katie VanBeek, who shot an 88 on the par 73 course, earned 58 points and teammate Kaitlin Parker finished with 54 points.

Cascade standout Renee Skidmore scored an impressive 70 points to win the individual title. Skidmore fired a 76 while helping the Bruins finish second with 232 points.

Each team advances to the District Championship May 17th at Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham. The top 40 golfers advance to the second round.

Marysville-Pilchuck 4, Stanwood 1: Marysville-Pilchuck’s Mitch Fierro knocked in a goal assisted by Matt Winquist in the 43rd minute and Chad Crandell scored an unassisted goal in the 78th minute to seal the Wesco North victory.

At Marysville

Archbishop Murphy 417, Friday Harbor 424, La Conner 493, Orcas Island 575: Ben Waiss fired a 4-over par 76 and teammates Mitch Kane and Marcus Duffy posted 82s as Archbishop Murphy captured the Northwest A League Championship.
