ROYALS: Utility infielder Alberto Callaspo of the Kansas City Royals was arrested early Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence and spent more than seven hours in jail. The Royals said they were still looking into the incident.

MARLINS: Second baseman Dan Uggla has hit 23 home runs this season, becoming only the second second baseman in major league history to hit 20 home runs or more in each of his first three seasons.
PIRATES: Pirates reliever Denny Bautista was struck on the right elbow by Rays second baseman Akinori Iwamura’s line drive in the fourth inning Friday night and left the game, his first with the club.
YANKEES: Hideki Matsui was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a sore left knee, leaving the New York Yankees without one of their key sluggers. Manager Joe Girardi said he hopes Matsui’s balky knee won’t keep him out longer than a couple weeks.
NATIONALS: Right-hander Shawn Hill returned to the Washington Nationals on Friday with an open-ended prescription for rest, after an examination at the Mayo Clinic revealed no particular reason for his troubling right forearm soreness.
PADRES: Brett Tomko rejoined the San Diego Padres on Friday, six days after he was waived by the Kansas City Royals. To make room, left-handed reliever Justin Hampson was optioned to Triple-A Portland.
