Mariner edges Cascade

MUKILTEO – The Mariner Marauders won nine events to defeat Cascade 89-86 Tuesday in a non-conference boys swim meet at Kamiak High School.

Alex Staheli placed first in two events (200- and 500-yard freestyle races) to help lead Mariner (2-0) to the victory.

“He (Alex Staheli) had two great races, he looked very strong today,” Mariner coach Jennifer Angelos said.

Cascade (0-2) kept the meet close due its depth, placing second eight times and third nine times.

Stanwood 85, Burlington-Edison 67: Keenan Storbeck won two individual events and swam on two winning relay teams to lead Stanwood to a non-conference victory. Senior Matt Land won the 100-yard breaststroke and sophomore Zach McCune swam on two winning relay teams.

Meadowdale 86, Lake Stevens 84: Meadowdale’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Dustin Van Duin, Sennen Klassen, David Clobes, and team captain Jonathan Keane pulled out the final race to steal the non-conference victory. Keane was a two-time individual and relay event winner.

Cascade 3, Jackson 0: At Majestic Lanes, Maddi Rizzuto rolled a 200 game and a 554 series and Markeeta Munger had a 195 game and a 530 series to lead Cascade (18-0). Jennifer Whetzel had a 185 game and a 558 series for Jackson (10-8). Cassie Aquilar had a 436 series to lead Anacortes (5-13) to a 2-1 win over Ferndale (6-12).
