A daily look at the Seattle Mariners in spring training
Thursday in camp
Overnight rain again limited the Mariners’ workout to one practice field and their covered bullpen and batting cages. They worked on first-and-third defensive situations and took batting practice off the coaches.
Today in camp
Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, especially Skunk Creek which runs behind the Mariners’ complex, the M’s may get in a full workout today. With dry weather expected, the Mariners hope to use all four lower practice fields for only the third time since spring training began.
On the trainer’s table
Shortstop Pokey Reese limped into the clubhouse Thursday morning and spent the rest of the day undergoing therapy on his left ankle. Reese rolled the ankle Wednesday during a rundown drill.
Outfielder Chris Snelling reported soreness in his left knee and had a magnetic resonance imaging exam Thursday afternoon. The Mariners expect to know the results today.
Weather report
The sun actually may shine for more than a few minutes today. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and a 20 percent chance of rain.

“If it rains any more, I’m going to start calling Ron Hassey ‘Noah.’”
Mariners manager Mike Hargrove on his bench coach, who is responsible for putting together the daily workout schedule. Rain has forced Hassey to adjust the schedule on six of the first eight days of spring training.
They did it
Japanese actor/comedian Takaaki Ishibashi, who appeared in the baseball movie Major League II, roamed the Mariners’ camp with a TV crew on Thursday, when he glommed onto several M’s players and had them mug for the camera.
