SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners optioned infielder Taylor Motter to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. A corresponding roster will be made prior to Monday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox at Safeco Field, the Mariners said in a press release.
Multiple reports Sunday said the Mariners were on the verge of signing free-agent infielder Danny Espinosa, who was released by the Los Angeles Angels last week.
Motter, 27, appeared in 70 games with Seattle this season, hitting .204 with seven home runs and 23 RBI. In his first 18 games, he hit .262 with five home runs and 13 RBI, but he just hit .180 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 52 games since April 27. Defensively, he appeared at every position except center field, pitcher and catcher.
