You can add another left-handed-hitting first baseman into the Seattle Mariners’ collection.
The Mariners have signed Brad Nelson, who finished last season with the Class AAA Tacoma Rainiers, to a minor league contract with an invitation to the Mariners’ big-league spring training camp.
Nelson, 27, began last season with the Milwaukee Brewers before they outrighted him to the minor leagues after he’d gotten 21 at-bats. He refused the assignment and the Mariners signed him in late May. With the Rainiers, Nelson batted .247 with 15 home runs and 45 runs batted in.
