The Mariners have made their first deadline-week trade, essentiallly a swap of minor leaguers.
They just announced they have traded outfielder Ryan Langerhans, who started this season at the big-league level but has played 57 games at Class AAA Tacoma, to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for cash considerations. Langerhans will report to the D-backs’ Class AAA Reno team.
The trade clears a roster spot for slugger Wily Mo Pena, who the Mariners signed this week and will send to AAA Tacoma. Pena had been cut by the Diamondbacks.
Langerhans played in 117 games for the Mariners over the past three seasons. He batted .173 with three home runs in 19 games with the Mariners this season, then .313 with 16 homers and 37 RBI at Tacoma.
