HARRISON, N.J. — Jesse Marsch is in and Mike Petke is out as the coach of the New York Red Bulls.
Marsch coached the Montreal Impact in its first MLS season, in 2012, and was an assistant to Bob Bradley with the United States at the 2010 World Cup. As a player, he spent 14 seasons in MLS, where he played for Bradley, former U.S. coach Bruce Arena, and two other MLS coaches of the year, Dave Sarachan and Preki.
Earlier Wednesday, the Red Bulls announced that Petke would not return for the 2015 season despite leading the team to the playoffs in each of his two seasons and the league’s best regular-season record in 2013.
The move came two weeks after Ali Curtis was hired to replace Andy Roxburgh as the team’s sporting director.
