MARYSVILLE – A victory for the Marysville-Pilchuck boys basketball team creates quite a jam atop the Western Conference North standings.
The Tomahawks (3-3 league, 3-7 overall) outlasted the Stanwood Spartans 53-52 at Marysville-Pilchuck high school on Saturday night.
Stanwood (3-1, 5-3) now falls into a four-way tie for first place with Lake Stevens, Mount Vernon and Snohomish.
Jared Stohl iced the game with four seconds remaining hitting a pair of clutch free throws to put the Tomahawks up 53-49. Deas Kaufman hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to pull the Spartans to within one.
“Whoever had the ball last had a good chance to win,” M-P coach Mike Lowery said. “This was a big win for us.”
Tied 35-35 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Tomahawks’ Jason Krischano hit 5-of-9 free throws down the stretch and finished with a team-high 15 points. Stohl and Keaton Taitingfong both added 11 points for the Tomahawks.
Stanwood was led by Kaufman and Chris Sains with 17 points.
