Marysville-Pilchuck boys eke out a 1-point win…

SNOHOMISH — It doesn’t get much closer then it did between Marysville-Pilchuck and Snohomish Thursday night at Snohomish High School.

Snohomish dominated the field events but M-P took the majority of the track events to edge the Panthers for first place in a Wesco North meet, 71-70. Monroe finished third with 40 points.

“(Both) those schools have a strong tradition,” Monroe coach Dave Brekke said. “The results aren’t a surprise. … it seems like Snohomish has sent endless triple jumpers to state.”

Snohomish’s Clayton Johnson won the high jump, the long jump and the triple jump and teammate Marlyn Anderson won the shot put and discus.

But Mark Pangilinan won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.49 seconds and also picked up first places in the 110 and 300 hurdles for M-P. The Tomahawks won the javelin and pole vault competitions to avoid a shutout in the field events.
