Marysville-Pilchuck edges Snohomish in girls volleyball

MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck moved one step closer to accomplishing its goal of an undefeated season, beating Snohomish 3-2 in Western Conference North Division girls volleyball play Wednesday night.

The teams alternated wins through five games, the Tomahawks prevailing 16-14, 9-15, 15-8, 11-15, 15-7.

Tomahawks head coach Shelly Johnson said she is proud of her team, but has fears of following in the footsteps of the Seattle Mariners.

“Our plan is to go undefeated, but we don’t want to end up like the Mariners”, said Johnson referring to Seattle’s record-setting regular season and subsequent post-season failure.

“I want to take this one game at a time and not look past anyone. Tonight, we did that in a match that seemed closer than the scores show.”

Marysville-Pilchuck (6-0 in division, 12-0 overall) was led by the 14 kills of Micaela Parker, the 13 kills and 20 digs of Ashley Doolin and the 42 assists of Stephanie Parker.

Megan Silver had 13 kills and 13 blocks for the Panthers (4-2, 10-2).

Marysville-Pilchuck, already assured of a post-season berth, can clinch the division title with a win tonight at Lake Stevens.

Lynnwood 3, Edmonds-Woodway 2: At Lynnwood H.S., Wesco South Division leader Lynnwood came back from a two game deficit to down Edmonds-Woodway 9-15, 8-15, 15-13, 15-8, 15-9. The Royals (6-1 in division, 8-4 overall) were led by Tricia Bartlett with 29 assists and 12-for15 serving, including three aces, in the fourth game. Haley Sheilhorn had 20 digs for the Warriors (4-3, 7-5).
