Mavericks knock off Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD — As soon as Lynnwood switched to zone defense early in the first quarter, Matt Gorman decided to get in a zone of his own.

Meadowdale’s senior power forward scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the paint in the first quarter, and visiting Meadowdale knocked off Lynnwood 56-36 for a Wesco South victory.

“We went colder than Alaska,” Lynnwood coach Landon Porter said. “We executed but couldn’t hit anything.”

Evan Matteson chipped in 11 points for Meadowdale, and senior Jake Clampitt scored all six of his points in the fourth quarter, when Meadowdale went on a 16-5 run to close out the game.

Andrew Beatty scored 13 points for Lynnwood, Aaron Matzen scored nine points, and forward Simi Fajemisin, hampered by foul trouble, finished with eight.

“When he’s (Fajemisin) out, we’ve got to be able to knock down outside shots,” Carter said. “Meadowdale did a great job of executing all game.”
