McKinney leads Tulalip Heritage to tourney title

BELLINGHAM – When a team is in the championship game of any tournament it helps to have a big game out of its star player.

Did that ever happen for the Tulalip Heritage boys basketball team, which defeated Neah Bay 100-66 in the championship game of the Lummi tournament Thursday.

Lesjar McKinney, who earned tournament Most Valuable Player honors, lit up the scoreboard with 48 points, leading the Hawks to victory in the first-ever Lummi Holiday Classic.

However, McKinney didn’t stop there. He grabbed 14 rebounds, sank 12 3-pointers and added four steals to his team’s effort.

“(McKinney) stepped it up,” Tulalip Heritage boys basketball head coach Leon Enich said.

Antonio Johnson added 20

points and nine rebounds for Tulalip Heritage, which beat Neah Bay and host school Lummi, both of which were in the 1B state tournament last season.

“This was a huge win,” Enich said.

Dom Debari was Neah Bay’s leading scorer. He didn’t do too badly himself with 28 points.
