Meadowdale foursome

EDMONDS – Meadowdale’s electric foursome proved to be too much for Shorecrest.

Travis Anderson, Demetri Huffman, Jake Linton and Justin Lucero tore through the Shorecrest football team in the Mavericks’ 56-21 victory Friday night at Edmonds Stadium.

Meadowdale improved to 3-2 in the Western Conference South Division and overall while keeping itself in solid contention for a district playoff berth.

Anderson provided the punch up the middle, compiling 100 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Lucero, a 5-foot-7, 150-pound speedster, scored twice among his six carries for 49 yards. Huffman, a senior quarterback, rushed 47 yards. He completed four passes for 99 yards – all to Linton, who also returned a punt 45 yards.

“All of our plays are being executed,” said Huffman, whose team opened eyes by thumping a solid Jackson team 28-6 last week. “Our (offensive) line is stepping up and giving us big holes to run through.”

Shorecrest (2-3, 2-3) opened the scoring with a 21-yard run from quarterback Jon Glancy, who finished with 111 yards passing and another 33 on the ground.

Meadowdale, however, blew the game open by scoring 56 of the game’s next 63 points. The momentum turned when Meadowdale defensive back Alex McDonald intercepted a pass and returned it 66 yards for a TD to give the Mavericks a 14-7 lead.

For Shorecrest, back Jesse Hoffman carried the ball 10 times for 71 yards and caught four passes for 36 yards. The junior speedster, who scored twice, has 837 combined rushing and receiving yards so far this season. He has scored 13 of Shorecrest’s 19 TDs.
