Meadowdale relishes up-tempo win

LYNNWOOD — Meadowdale wanted to play a quality opponent. It wanted to play an up-tempo style. It wanted to play a balanced game.

Seems like everything the Mavericks wanted, they got.

Meadowdale scored four players in double figures and raced past Bainbridge, 85-67, Friday night in a non-league game at home.

Eryn Jones had 25 points for the Mavericks, off-setting a game-high 27 points from Bainbridge freshman standout Brittany Gray.

“We wanted to play a team that is a state-caliber team and this was it,” Meadowdale head coach Dan Taylor said. “Brittany Gray was a great player for us to face, too.”

Meadowdale failed to score at least 20 points in only one quarter. And the Mavericks had 18 in that one.

They jumped out to a 21-13 lead at the end of one period, were ahead 39-32 at the break, then poured in 46 more points in the second half to run away with the win. Meadowdale led by as many as 19 points in the second half.

Getting the ball up the court was the key for the Mavericks, which managed that again and again.

“We like to push the tempo, so the high score was good for us. But, at the same time, we gave up a lot in the half-court game that we shouldn’t have,” Taylor said. “Both teams shot the ball pretty well.”

Anna Moliter added 18 points for Meadowdale, which also received 11 apiece from Hanna Fjortoft and Alli Streit.
