FEDERAL WAY – With no swimmers in any of the championship finals, Meadowdale still finished in a tie for 13th in the 3A/2A state meet Friday at the King County Aquatics Center.
Bellevue’s fourth-place finish in the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, was enough to edge Bainbridge Island 232-227 for the team championship.
Meadowdale junior diver Brittany Zdenek, who had finished Thursday’s series of preliminary dives in sixth place, overcame back pain to move up to fifth place with 289.15 points.
Sarah Earling’s fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle consolation final was in a personal best 2:00.10. Seniors Shelby Hill and Brittany Kunze finished fourth sixth, respectively, in the 200 individual medley consolation final.
Hill also had an outstanding time of 5:15.35 in the 500 freestyle. Her time would have been good enough for eighth place in the championship final but had to serve as the winning time in the consolation final. Earling finished three places behind Hill.
The Mavericks managed a respectable third place consolation finish in the 200 freestyle relay and a fourth in the 400 freestyle relay consolation final.
