LYNNWOOD – Meadowdale senior forward Sean Johnson hit a 3-point goal with five seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, where the Mavericks won their Western Conference 3A boys basketball opener against Lake Stevens Tuesday night, 48-45 at Meadowdale High School.

Trailing by five at halftime, Meadowdale (1-0 in league, 2-2 overall) stepped up to the challenge and outscored Lake Stevens 22-17 in the second half to send the game into the extra session.

In the overtime, Johnson hit a runner and got fouled for a three-point play, which gave the Mavericks the lead for good. Johnson finished with a game-high 13 points and had seven rebounds.

“Sean came up huge for us and made big plays at both ends of the court to lead us to victory,” said Meadowdale coach Troy Parker.
