LYNNWOOD – Meadowdale moved to within a win of its first Class 3A Northwest District girls soccer championship with a 3-0 semifinal victory over Burlington-Edison Friday at Lynnwood High School.
The Mavericks, last season’s district runnerup, got a late first-half goal by Kate Nelson to take the lead and wrapped up the victory with late second-half goals by Jessica Duty and Melissa Alunni.
Goalie Allie Wirtala earned the shutout.
Meadowdale, which is seeking its fifth straight state tournament appearance, will play today’s Bellingham-Squalicum winner for the district title and a state playoff berth next Friday at Bellingham Civic Stadium.
Class 4A Northwest District meet: Shorewood’s Jeff Jablonski led Shorewood to the team championship by winning the singles title. Jackson’s David Chong and Alex Yee won the doubles title.
