Meadowdale’s Laws leads 3A tourney

YAKIMA – The few golfers from the Western Conference that qualified for the Class 3A state championship did a great job of representing Wesco on Monday.

John Laws from Meadowdale shot a seven-under par 65 to pace the entire field after the first round. Lynnwood’s Austin Beatty shot a par-72, good enough for sixth-place.

The second-round of the tournament will take place today at the Meadow Springs Golf Course in Yakima.

Class 4A State Championship, first round: Jackson’s Mike Hansen and Kamiak’s Jake Koppenberg both shot a two-over par 74 to tie for ninth place after the first round. Chad Gorney from Cascade shot a 75, while teammate Justin Brundage and Shane Wells from Oak Harbor finished the first round at 76.

Class A/B State Championship, first round: Friday Harbor had three golfers in the top-20, including Justin Benz, who is tied for third after shooting a two-under par 70.

King’s Richard Woo is in a three-way tie for 12th place with a four-over par 76.

In the Class B tournament, Matt Elmore from Master’s Touch and Chris Fuller from Grace Academy both finished in the top-20 after the first round.

At Sun Willows G.C. (Tri-Cities)
