LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Connecticut looks pretty comfortable at No. 1.
Jeff Adrien scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds and the Huskies celebrated their return to the top of the polls for the first time in three years with a 68-51 dismantling of No. 5 Louisville on Monday night.
Hasheem Thabeet added 14 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks as the Huskies (21-1, 10-1 Big East) rolled to their 10th straight victory. Jerome Dyson had 14 points and A.J. Price had 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists as the Huskies had surprisingly little trouble shutting down the red-hot Cardinals.
Terrence Williams led Louisville (17-4, 8-1) with a career-high 26 points but got little help.
UConn became the fourth No. 1 team in as many weeks earlier in the day, but managed to avoid the pitfalls that sent Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and Duke tumbling out of the top spot.
Louisville ended Pittsburgh’s run at No. 1 with a 69-63 upset on Jan. 17. The Cardinals were hoping to become the first team since Georgia Tech in 1993 to beat two different No. 1s in the same season, but simply couldn’t keep up with the Huskies.
PITTSBURGH — Sam Young had 23 points and DeJuan Blair 18 and Pittsburgh beat Robert Morris.
Levance Fields added 12 points and 13 assists and Jermaine Dixon 15 points for the Panthers (20-2), who were playing their first game while not ranked in the top five since Nov. 22.
Pitt has won four of five since losing for the first time this season and falling from the No. 1 ranking it held for two weeks.
Jeremy Chappell had 19 points and added a team-high eight assists for the Colonials (15-8), who had a nine-game winning streak snapped.
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Ryan Tillema scored 21 points and Wisconsin-Green Bay was almost perfect from the free-throw line in the upset.
Tillema scored 18 of his points in the second half for Green Bay (18-6, 10-2 Horizon League), which made 32 of 35 foul shots.
Gordon Hayward had 22 points for Butler (19-2, 10-1), whose players had to watch as Green Bay students stormed the court after the final horn.
It’s another surprising step for Green Bay, which has surged to a surprising second place in the league after opening up non-conference play with back-to-back losses.
WACO, Texas — Kansas freshman Marcus Morris had a dominating start after halftime and twin brother Markieff had some big contributions of his own to lead the Jayhawks to their seventh straight victory.
Kansas (18-4, 7-0 Big 12), which moved into the Top 25 on Monday for the first time since early December, didn’t lead until Sherron Collins had a pair of short floaters in the final 43 seconds of the first half to make it 30-28.
Marcus Morris then scored the Jayhawks’ first eight points after halftime. When Markieff Morris hit an open 3-pointer from the top of the key with 15:56 left, the Jayhawks led 43-33.
Collins had 17 points, and has led Kansas in scoring in all but five games this season.
Henry Dugat and Kevin Rogers had 15 points apiece for Baylor (15-7, 3-5), which has lost four straight.
