Mercer Island’s depth sinks Snohomish

MERCER ISLAND — The depth of Mercer Island’s swimmers proved to be too much for the Snohomish Panthers to overcome Tuesday.

The state qualifiers the Islanders have in their number two and three placers helped them pick up extra points and beat the Panthers 288.5-233 in a non-league meet at Mary Wayte Pool. It was Snohomish’s second loss of the season.

“Mercer Island is really good,” Snohomish coach Rob Serviss said. “In a meet against a team of that quality, every event means a lot.”

Eric Pedack swam a strong meet for Snohomish with wins in the 100-yard butterfly (54.62 seconds) and 100 backstroke (56.77). He also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team.

Teammate Logan Goodman won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.52.

Serviss thought Snohomish would have had a chance if it could have picked up some secondary scores but the Panthers were unable to do so.

“Their depth ended up being more than we could beat,” Serviss said.
