TACOMA — Despite lacking control, Everett Merchants starting pitcher Seafth Howe still held the Seattle Studs to just one run in a 6-1 Pacific International League win Tuesday at the University of Puget Sound.
Howe walked five and struck out four Seattle batters through six innings while Ian Parmley earned the save with three scoreless innings of relief in the win.
Everett (9-1 overall, 8-1 PIL) opened the game up with a four-run fourth inning spearheaded by a solo home run from Andy Lyon and a two-run single by Kyle Phillips.
Garrett Patterson added a run-scoring single in the fourth. Phillips also had an RBI in the third inning for the first-place Merchants.
The Merchants play the Class A Everett AquaSox today in a 7 p.m. exhibition game at Everett Memorial Stadium. Right-hander Chris Seybold is scheduled to take the hill for the Merchants.
