WICHITA, Kansas — The Everett Merchants baseball team picked up its first win at the National Baseball Congress World Series on Monday with a 7-2 victory over the San Diego Force at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Right-hander Cody Culp led the way for the Merchants, tossing eight innings and fanning seven while allowing just two runs on nine hits.
Meadowdale High School graduate Travis Hagan drove in a pair of runs with a run-scoring single and a sacrafice fly, and Evan Johnson reached base in all four plate apperances, scoring a run, singling three times and working a walk.
Four different Merchants players drove in runs on their way to their first victory at the tournament.
The Merchants (1-1) play Wednesday against an opponent and at a time that has yet to be determined.
