LONGVIEW — Caden Cornett allowed only one hit over five shutout innings on the mound, but the Everett Merchants had to sweat out a 5-4 win over the West Coast League’s Cowlitz Black Bears on Friday at Story Field.
Patrick Chung, Sam Linscott and Jack Sheward each had two hits for Everett, which entered the bottom of the eighth inning with a 5-0 lead. Everett reliever Zach Boswell allowed two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, and Cowlitz had the tying run on first when Boswell struck out Colton Sakamoto to end the game.
