Merchants open Kamloops tourney with 7-5 victory

The game resumed in the bottom of the third inning Friday after being suspended Thursday due to rain.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Everett Merchants opened the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament with a 7-5 win over the Edmonton Cubs on Friday in the continuation of a game suspended after 2 1/2 innings Thursday.

The game resumed in the bottom of the third inning with the Merchants leading 6-2.

Jaxsen Sweum went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Austin Hauck drove in two runs during a 1-for-3 performance at the plate.

Gavin Bullock picked up the win with two innings of relief. He allowed one run, one hit and struck out two. Koby Blunt allowed an unearned run, a hit and struck out two over 1 1/3 innings to pick up the save.

The Merchants continue tournament play at 7 p.m. Saturday against the Alaska Goldpanners.
