SEATTLE — The Everett Merchants split a non-league doubleheader against the Northwest Honkers on Friday, taking the first game 5-0 before falling 3-1 in Game 2 at Husky Ballpark.
Game 1 starter Brooks Roy pitched five innings of one-hit ball while striking out six for the Merchants.
Offensively, Everett (11-2) got on the board in the third inning behind David Amberson’s RBI triple which sailed over the center fielder’s head. Bobby LeCount and Andy Lyon — both out of Everett Community College — followed with RBI singles of their own to give the Merchants a 3-0 lead.
In the second game, Donny Treat two-run home run in the first inning was all the Honkers needed. The Merchants’ lone run came in the seventh on Andrew Lauletta’s RBI single.
Everett travels to Langley Sunday for a doubleheader.
