EVERETT — The Everett Merchants really needed just one inning to take the first game of a doubleheader against the visiting Burnaby B.C. Bulldogs.
Everett (10-7) scored seven runs in the second inning on its way to a 9-0 rout in the first game.
The Bulldogs won the second game 11-3.
Josh Short and Taylor Hudson hit back to back home runs in the second inning of the opener, and Beau Blacken and Donny Treat each chipped in a RBI for the Merchants in the inning.
Everett starter Jake Hammons of New Mexico State picked up the win.
Short also hit a three-run home run in the second game, but the Merchants were unable to score again.
