WENATCHEE — The Everett Merchants baseball team routed the Wenatchee AppleSox 10-2 Sunday afternoon, giving the Merchants a split of the two-game series.
Wenatchee won the opener 9-3 on Saturday. The series was a non-league affair between the Merchants of the Pacific International League and the AppleSox of the West Coast Collegiate League.
Everett enjoyed production from all parts of its batting order, pounding out 14 hits on the day.
Leadoff hitter Sam Brown, a graduate of Jackson High School, had four of those hits, including a home run to start the game. He later added an RBI single.
Everett’s Chris Osborne contributed three singles, a double and an RBI. TC Florentine joined the hit parade with three singles and one RBI. Keenan Forch also homered for the Merchants.
Everett used six pitchers in the game. Zach Johnson drew the fifth-inning assignment and thus became the winning pitcher. Also seeing time on the mound were starter JoJo Howie, Connor McKeever, Jason Lotzer, Brandon Kizer and Jake Thomas.
The Merchants return to action Wednesday when they play the Everett AquaSox in the annual Everett Cup game at Everett Memorial Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The AquaSox are a Class A minor-league affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
