KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Everett Merchants’ opening game in the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament was suspended after 21⁄2 innings due to rain Thursday, with the Merchants leading the Edmonton Cubs 6-2.
Everett manager Harold Pyatte said a steady drizzle at Norbrock Stadium during the third of four scheduled games slicked up the field. Tournament officials put the tarp on the field, but the rain never stopped, forcing a postponement until Friday.
“They called us back to the field at 8:30 tomorrow morning to finish this game,” Pyatte said.
Two games were completed before the rain, and the game between the Calgary Dinos and the Kamloops Sun Devils, originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, will be played Friday.
Pyatte was unsure how the remainder of the tournament would be affected. The Merchants are scheduled to play the Coquitlam (B.C.) Angels at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Everett scored twice in the bottom of the first and then four times in the bottom of the second against Edmonton.
Cody Culp allowed two runs on four hits in three innings on the mound for the Merchants.
