KAMLOOPS, British Columbia — Jake Tilley’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the Everett Merchants to a 6-5 win over the Seattle Studs on Sunday in the championship game of the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament.
It was the second dramatic win of the day for the Merchants. They defeated the Kamloops Sun Devils 4-3 in 10 innings in a semifinal contest earlier in the day.
In the title game, Andy Atwood earned the win in relief, throwing three screless innings. He also went 4-for-5 at the plate and drove in two runs.
With the scored tied 5-5 with one out in the bottom of the 12th, Everett’s Max Whitt walked. He scored from first on Tilley’s double down the left-field line.
In the semifinals, Everett trailed Kamloops 3-2 with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning.
With two men on base, Anthony Gomez hit a ball off the fence, scoring both runners. Gomez finished the game 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI.
Brandon Mahovlich earned the win in relief.
Gomez was named the tournament MVP and the tournament’s top offensive player. Whitt was named the tournament’s top defensive player, and the Mercchants’ Harold Pyatte was named the tournament’s top manager.
Everett also won the team sportsmamship award.
