Class AAA Tacoma Rainiers: Outfielder Jeremy Reed, obtained earlier this summer from the White Sox in the Freddy Garcia trade, continued to impress offensively. He went into the weekend with a 12-game hitting streak and had hit safely in 20 of his previous 21 games. During that span, he was hitting .315 with three doubles, a triple, three home runs, 18 RBI and four steals, raising his batting average from .269 to .301.

Outfielder Jamal Strong led the Rainiers with a .324 average and 19 steals, and first baseman A.J. Zapp was batting .284 with a team-high 21 homers.

The Rainiers, 65-51, maintained a half-game lead in the Pacific Coast League North entering their weekend series against second-place Edmonton.

Class AA San Antonio Missions: Right-hander Rick Guttormson, a former Edmonds Community College player who lives in Anacortes, is having his finest season as a pro. He is 4-4 with a 3.71 ERA and 21 saves.

Since the beginning of June, Guttormson has 18 saves and a 3.03 earned run average, and is a big reason the Missions remained in first place in the Texas League South standings. This is Guttormson’s eighth pro season, his first in the Mariners organization after scout Charley Kerfeld discovered him last year with Berkshire of the independent Northern League.

Michael Morse, who was part of the Garcia trade with the White Sox, was batting .363 with five homers and 30 RBI in the 36 games he has played.

Shin-soo Choo was batting .308 with 27 steals.

Class A Inland Empire 66ers: Outfielder Gary Harris hit safely in 24 of 26 games entering the weekend, raising his average to .276 and continuing to swipe bases. He has a team-high 28 steals.

Josh Ellison was hitting .419 in 74 at bats since being promoted to the 66ers, and Jon Nelson was hitting .305 with 15 homers and 78 RBI.

Left-handed pitcher Bobby Livingston is 10-4 with a 3.53 ERA.

Class A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers: Adam Jones has been a bright spot in a difficult season for the Rattlers, who are seventh in the Midwest League Western Division standings.

Jones led the team with 69 runs, 113 hits and 63 RBI, and he entered the weekend hitting .266.

Chris Colton led the team with 14 steals, 10 triples (third most in the league) and 12 homers.

Right-hander Jason Mackintosh is 6-4 with a 3.32 earned run average and lefty Ryan Feierabend 8-6, 3.93.

Rookie Peoria Mariners: Daniel Santin hit safely in 22 of 26 games and entered the weekend hitting .343. He had 12 multi-hit games and 14 extra-base hits.

Chris Snelling, coming back from wrist surgery, was batting .313 after 10 games.
