Not a lot of hard news to report today, so here’s a few side items:
– Tips defenseman Taylor Ellington did not practice today, but it was just a scheduled day off. Ellington, as you know, missed the final 21 games of the regular season with a foot injury. He got himself back in time for the playoffs, but the Tips are still working him back up to speed.
– The Tips were also back to practicing in their usual afternoon slot. The week prior to the playoffs Everett was practicing in the evenings. Coach John Becanic quipped it was all for my benefit (so I wouldn’t be pressed up against deadline), though I suspect it had more to do with getting back to a familiar schedule.
– Found out winger Kyle Beach suffered nerve damage in his cheek when he took that puck to the face up in Vancouver. Apparently it’s still numb, and there’s a possiblity it will remain numb the rest of his life. Say what you will about Beach, but he’s a pretty tough customer. I know I wouldn’t be playing hockey with a fractured orbital bone that requires surgery.
