With the regular season over, we took a look back this weekend and handed out some awards.
But enough about the regular season; the Seahawks have a playoff game in five days, hosting Carolina Saturday night after the Panthers knocked off Arizona to advance out of the Wild Card round.
From the team’s website, here’s what Panthers coach Ron Rivera had to say about facing the Seahawks.
You can read plenty of Panthers coverage in the Charlotte Observer here.
And in an unfortunate story, Rivera’s Charlotte home was damaged by a fire early Monday morning.
Danny O’Neil of 710 ESPN Seattle looks ahead to this game, noting that Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has had some of his worst games against Seattle.
Former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren told Sports Radio 950 KJR that he heard from a few teams about openings, but said he’s done coaching. He did say, however, that the 49ers job might have interested him—Holmgren is from the Bay Area and spent six seasons as an assistant with the 49ers before taking the head coaching job at Green Bay—but said San Francisco wasn’t one of the teams that contacted him.
From NFL.com, former Seahawks personnel executive Scot McCloughan is a candidate for a top executive position in Washington. McCloughan, formerly the GM in San Francisco, had a big hand in building two of the NFC’s most talented rosters of the last few years.
Finally, while not directly related to the Seahawks, some pretty big NFL, and NFC West, news out of L.A. with the Los Angeles Times reporting that St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke plans to build a stadium in Inglewood. This doesn’t mean the Rams moving to L.A. is a done deal, but it’s certainly the strongest indicator yet that the NFL is eventually returning to L.A., and quite possibly in the form of the Rams moving back to the city they called home from 1946-1995.
