The Everett Silvertips were back at practice today on the community rink as Xfinity Arena continues to transition back from playing host to the circus this weekend.
It’s also the week of the home opener, which will begin Saturday night at 7 against Spokane. The homestand continues Sunday against Prince Albert at 4.
The big news, of course, is the return of Noah Juulsen, who made it back from Montreal in time for Saturday’s game at Portland. Juulsen had the go-ahead goal on a beautiful one-timer following a faceoff win by Remi Laurencelle in the second period of the 3-1.
Devon Skoleski scored the other two goals including Everett’s first power play conversion. In fact most of Monday’s ice time was spent practicing the power play. The Silvertips tried a number of different combinations, and head coach Kevin Constantine again mentioned that the power play lines will continue to be “a work in progress.”
Defenseman Tristen Pfeifer wore a red non-contact jersey as he skated prior to the start of practice. He then spent the rest of practice on the stationary bike and is expected to remain out for at least another week. Yan Khomenko was also absent and has yet to play this season since suffering a head injury two weeks ago when he banged into a goal crossbar.
In looking around the league the Montreal Gazette has this story which features Constantine discussing Juulsen and former Silvertip Nikita Scherbak. The WHL named its Player of the Week and it is Prince Albert’s Reid Gardiner. Also it appears the Seattle Thunderbirds will soon be back at full strength with Jamal Wilson and Mathew Barzal each returning to Seattle.
Don’t forget to vote in this week’s poll. Last week 65 percent of you voted correctly that the Tips would win in regulation. Perhaps that was a good sign.
