Monroe beats Cascade on Brady’s walk-off homer in the 10th

MONROE – In a game between the two top teams in the Wesco North, the host Monroe Bearcats notched a 5-4 victory in the bottom half of the 10th inning Wednesday on a walk-off home run by senior Michael Brady.

“This was probably the best high school game that I have seen in 10 years of coaching baseball,” Monroe coach Neil Henderson said. “It was nice to come out on the winning side, but it was a great game to watch either way.”

Although Cascade jumped out to a one-run lead in the first inning, Monroe came back with three runs in the third, forging the first of four lead changes in the game.

The Bearcats took a one-run lead into the seventh, but senior Brian Pearl smashed one of his two doubles in the top half of the inning to help Cascade put one more run on the board and send the game into extra innings.

Both teams notched a run in the eighth inning, but it was not until the bottom of the 10th that Brady cranked his first hit of the day, the game-winning home run. It was the senior’s third round-tripper of the year, but more than that, it was probably the most important hit of his career.

“He didn’t do much with the bat today, but he got the hit when it counted,” Henderson said. “The umpires had said that this was going to be the last inning, so he really came through for us in the end.”
