Monroe clinches district playoff berth

EVERETT – Two games, two victories.

The Monroe Bearcats won their second game in a row without leading scorer, junior Sarah Morton (17.3 points per game). The Bearcats benifitted from good outside shooting and plenty of second-chance opportunities to capture a 65-43 Western Conference North Division victory over Cascade Friday night at Cascade High School.

With the victory, Monroe (10-3, 14-3) clinched a Class 4A District 1 playoff berth.

“Monroe had a good early start and took advantage of their second-chance opportunities,” Cascade head coach Dave Roberts said.

Fellow juniors Keena Hopkins and Kayla Wangner each scored 17 points and have combined for 60 points in the past two games without Morton.

Ashley Naylor and Gina Delos Reyes combined to score 26 points with seven 3-pointers to lead Cascade (2-9, 3-12).
