Just three meets into her high school track and field career, Hannah Ganashamoorthy already owns school records in three events.
The Monroe freshman phenom is ranked among the top five girls in the state this season — regardless of classification — in the long jump, 100-meter hurdles and 200 meters.
Ganashamoorthy’s school-record mark of 18 feet, 6 inches in the long jump ranks second in the state and is tied for 82nd in the nation.
She also is ranked fourth in the state in the 100-meter hurdles (15.01 seconds) and fifth in the 200 meters (25.41). Both are school records.
Each of her record-breaking times and marks would have earned her a podium finish at last year’s Class 4A state meet.
“She’s something special when it comes to that many events — being that amazing at them,” Monroe coach Brittany Kitts said.
Ganashamoorthy is an accomplished track and field athlete who has competed the past several years in the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Championships.
“Coming into this season, she essentially already had (beaten) several school records before she even touched foot on the track,” Kitts said. “She’s a once-in-a-lifetime athlete.”
