Ben Williams has been hired as the boys basketball coach at Monroe High School.
The school’s athletic director, Mark Henderson, made the announcement Tuesday.
Williams replaces Tyson Horner, whose contract was not renewed after the 2016-17 season.
Williams has head-coaching experience at the high school level. He served as the head boys basketball coach at Skyline High School in Sammamish during the 2015-16 season, guiding the Spartans to a 10-13 record.
Prior to becoming a head coach, Williams spent 10 seasons coaching junior-varsity teams under Bill Liley at Eastside Catholic and King’s. Williams’ JV squads compiled a 139-21 record in his 10 seasons under Liley.
Williams also has worked with NBC Camps, West Coast All-Star Camps, Lorenzo Romar Basketball Camps, Western Washington Basketball Camps, the Highlander Select program, Watts Basketball, and the Washington State Chaffey program.
Williams inherits a Bearcats team that was 17-7 this past season and came within one win of reaching the Class 4A state regionals for the second time in three years.
